BoÄŸaziçi University Sports Committee

   Bogazici University Sports Board, based on the 'Sports Club' established at Robert College in 1896; Having achieved many firsts in the sports history of our country and taking it upon itself to continue the tradition of sports and sportsmanship from past to present,  It is Turkey's oldest sports community. 'Athletic Association', which organized our country's first athletics competition, 'Field Day' in 1898, and 'Sportsmanship Brotherhood' communities, which have represented the athlete spirit of Robert College students since the day it was founded, BoÄŸaziçi University

 

 

It was merged under the umbrella of the Sports Board in 1971, when the University was founded. 

    The Sports Board is elected among students who play an active role in various sports teams of our university; Since its establishment, it has been constantly updating itself in order to take sports to higher levels, primarily at BoÄŸaziçi University, in Turkey and in the world, and sets bigger goals for itself every year. It organizes various sports events throughout the year, such as the International 'Sports Fest' and 'Sports Awards', and continues its work as the representative of sports and athleticism at BoÄŸaziçi University.

Us from Past to Present

1896

Founded in 1896, Robert College Sports Club is our country's first sports club.

1898

Field Day, the first intercollegiate athletics competition, was held on the south campus in 1898. 

1904

Dodge Hall, which was completed in 1904, is our country's first indoor sports hall and the first sports hall belonging to a school in Europe.

1980

BoÄŸaziçi University Sports Fest, Turkey's first international sports festival, was held on the south campus in 1980.

1920

The first table tennis competition in Turkey was held at Robert College in the early 1920s. 

1907

The first basketball game in Turkey was played at Dodge Hall in 1907. 

1986

The first triathlon attempt in Turkey was held in Istanbul in 1986, within the scope of BoÄŸaziçi University Sports Festival (later internationally known as BoÄŸaziçi University Sports Fest), with 1km swimming, 30km cycling and 6km running, with the entry level triathlon halved. 

1987

Founded in 1987, BoÄŸaziçi Elephants, which later changed its name to Sultans, is Turkey's first and most established American football team.

Oxford Cambridge Bosphorus rowing races started to be held in the Golden Horn for the first time in 1987. Two of these races resulted in the victory of BoÄŸaziçi University. 

1988

BoÄŸaziçi Sultans played its first match with a team outside the university in 1988 against the American Navy.

2000

In 1999-2000 season, Chelsea FC has preferred our sports fields for pratice before the game against Galatasaray.

1996

Snow Break, one of Turkey's largest winter festivals, was first organized in 1996.

1990

Arif Gürdenli, the first Olympic athlete from BoÄŸaziçi University to graduate in 1990, competed in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games as a member of the National Olympic Sailing Team and won first place in the races. 

2011

BoÄŸaziçi University Sports Awards, which are among the most prestigious awards at the university level in Turkey and where the most successful athletes and sports people of the year are determined by the votes of BoÄŸaziçi University students, were held for the first time in 2011. 

2018

BoÄŸaziçi University Sports Summit, where sports and sportsmanship are discussed from A to Z, where successful sports people share their thoughts on the future of sports and shed light on young sports lovers with their experiences, was held for the first time in 2018.
